Corrections policy
We will sometimes misread a mei. When we do, we fix it in public.
How to report an error
Email [email protected] with the case number and what you think is wrong. Evidence helps: a photo of the same mark from the maker's own site, a catalogue page, or a knowledgeable source. Makers and shops are welcome to write too; we treat a message from an official company email address as coming from the business.
What we do
- We acknowledge your message, normally within 3 working days, and decide within 14 days. Complex cases can take longer; we will tell you.
- If the reading, the attribution, the confidence level or a source changes, we update the case and add a dated entry to its Corrections log saying what changed and why. We do not silently rewrite a reading.
- The page's “Updated” date changes. If the change is significant — a different maker, or a confidence level going down — we also note it at the top of the case.
- Spelling, formatting and broken-link fixes that do not change the meaning are made without a log entry.
- If we disagree, we explain why and may add your alternative reading under “Other possible makers”, with credit if you wish.
Owner reports
An owner can update or withdraw their own report at any time by emailing us from the address they used. Updated reports are marked “Updated by the owner” with the date. Moderation edits (for example, removing personal data) are listed under the report.
Removal
If the contributor asks us to withdraw a case, we remove the photos and text, and the page shows a short notice that the case was withdrawn. Other requests to remove content are handled under the content & review policy; we do not remove accurate content because it is unwelcome.
